Making a success of your trade show performance

Participating in a trade show has many pitfalls, as many as good tips to make your performance a success. The first one is: prepare yourself and your team!

 

 

 

 

 

Working on a trade show has always one objective: doing business.

 

Doing business means getting more business out of existing clients, identifying and contacting new prospects and networking with the wide range of stakeholders that visit tradeshows. The first and second goal is imperative and should occupy your preparation. The third goal, pampering your stakeholders, should not steal time from you’re sales force. Therefore it’s very relevant to recognise as soon as possible who you have in front of you and once you identify you’re target:

 

- Make their day,

- Give them your full attention,

- Be playful and have fun and

- Be nice and friendly to them.

 

You may say: “Is that all?” Or: “I need to collect business cards and have no time to “play around”, or: “I need to divide my attention to whom I have in front and those passing bye” or “Try and stay friendly during a week on a trade show”, for example. Yes you are right; you may say all of that and those are some of the the pitfalls. That’s why it’s so important to:

 

Prepare in depth your assistance, technically (body language, target recognition, first contact, deviation of non relevant contacts and such) as well as emotionally (how to be and stay friendly and nice, how to be playful and make their day, how to not loose concentration and such).
